Shed (on 44 hectares) in Newham, Victoria, sells 22 per cent over reserve in new rush to regions

Save Share We speak to the team behind the most intriguing recent property sale. The property: A 110-acre (44.5ha) piece of land with a shed but no house at 1067 Rochford Road, Newham, Victoria. Sold at auction for $1.8 million. Who was the agent/agency? John Keating, Keatings Real Estate. How long was this on the market? [Keating] Four weeks. No house, just a shed: But the 110-acre property at 1067 Rochford Road, Newham in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges sold for $1.8 million.   Why did this one sell? Limited supply and very strong demand. It was vacant land but had a recently issued permit [to build a house] from Macedon Ranges Shire. Having a current permit is like gold. Getting it is so hard. The permit process is up to 15 months and the cost to obtain it is anything from $20k to $30k. We won’t take a property on unless it has a planning permit.

Attenborough supports Flinders pier

Attenborough supports Flinders pier Share THE wonders of the natural world were the focus at Flinders last week when environmentalist Sir David Attenborough stepped in to bat for Victoria’s marine emblem: the weedy sea dragon. The legendary eco-warrior joined members of the Flinders Community Association in their quest to save the threatened 180-metre section of the old timber pier whose demolition, the locals fear, will threaten the endangered creature’s survival (“Heritage pier faces partial demolition” The Times 23/3/21). Reportedly more than 15,000 people have signed an online petition urging the state government to repair the Western Port pier’s damaged piles, with the support of a high profile campaigner like Sir David adding clout to their campaign.
